ABOUT nessle

Our vision is a more supported early parenthood:  pregnancy and postpartum marked by caring, connection, and learning--on your terms.

At Nessle, we believe in real parenthood. The ups. The downs. The delight of your baby's gummy grin. The fog of sleeplessness. We are building an online community dedicated to connecting parents with the support they need, whether it's a 15-minute video chat with a certified lactation consultant, a late-night text session with a postpartum doula, or a curated course that answers burning questions with practical, evidence-based guidance.

We also offer in-person postpartum doula services in the Richmond, Virginia area, as well as workshops for parents, parents-to-be, support people, and baby care professionals.

a postpartum doula is...

A postpartum doula is a professional who offers a family support, advice, education, companionship, and assistance--all without judgment--in the weeks and month following a birth.
Nessle doulas are trained in postpartum family adjustment, newborn care, feeding, development, and parent-infant bonding. We provide evidence-based information on infant feeding, emotional and physical recovery from childbirth, infant soothing and coping skills for new parents.

our founder

Carly Buxton, PhD, CPD(DONA) is a DONA-certified postpartum doula and Certified Lactation Consultant (CLC) based in the West End of Richmond, Virginia.
Also a historian, market researcher, and writer, her mission is to promote empathy in everyday action: in our communities, in research, in education, and in business.
After many years of living away from home (in Chicago, Boston, China, and Japan), Carly has returned to her hometown of Richmond, Virginia, where she lives with her husband and their daughter, Rose.
